Glitterfest was founded on creative talented artisans. Having a retail shoppe helps you to meet people who know people. This is the way with the beautiful Martha Kenney! A friend who found the shoppe, told us we needed to have her for Glitterfest! She makes the most amazing soldered charms. When I first aw them I almost cried! They are teeny tiny, ringed with rhinestones, and I want them all.

They are made with an attention to detail that is hard to find. They are shiny and bright! Sparkly and fun! Images of wonderful things~inititals, gorgeous gals, florals....all kinds of things!

Martha herself is a friendly, funny person. So very nice and happy to share! She is usually up in the front of the room and her gorgeous daughter spends the day of Glitterfest helping out and I imagine shopping too!

Project 1:Tara's Altared Drawer

If you have a few pretty scraps of paper and lace plus a handful of trinkets you can create this lovely altered drawer shadow box in about two hours!

After finding the perfect frame or wooden box you will need to gather a few basic supplies.

*Modge Podge

*Tacky glue

* a metal ruler and cutting mat with exacto kife

* some cardboard

* a favorite sheet of scrap book paper for the background

* bits of lace, fabric and ribbon

* a few small silk or paper flowers

* a whimsical touch such a tiny toy or favorite memento

* an image with the head , shoulders, arms and legs to cut out (a paper doll is

great or a Victorian die cut will work)

*Distress ink by Ranger in linen or a brown

* Stickles in the glitter color of choice

First we will glue the background into the drawer or box of your choice. The background should both supply some color and a base to build on but it should add some texture as well. Put a coat of Modge Podge onto the bottom of the box with a paintbrush. After cutting the paper to size insert into the box. Use the side of a credit card to smooth the paper out and adhere firmly to the box.

Now it is time to play with your layout. You want to build layers and texture to give the piece dimension. Time to create a dress for our Victorian die cut. I purchased these sweet girls at Whimzy.

Time to create a dress for our Victorian die cut. I purchased these sweet girls at Whimzy. Cut a dress shape out of any paper you like. I use sheet music. Trim until you get a shape you like. The waist should be at the elbow and narrower than the shoulder. The skirt can be any length you desire.

I usually draw on the dress with colored pencils to imply some folds in fabric and then cover with tulle or lace. Tape the doll together so she is ready to glue in when the background is complete.

Glue some lace to edge of dress and bodice. You can trim to exact size when dry. This girl needed more dimension so an overlay was added to the skirt with some crochet at the waist.

Next, I added some lace squares, flowers, birds, glitter scrolls and a layered sign onto the background with Tacky glue. A strip of pink velvet was added to the top of the box and the corners were finished with plastic flowers.

First, position and glue down the legs of your girl. Then attach a piece of cardboard to the back of the doll to raise her from the background a bit before gluing her into the box. For a bit of whimsy I added the ballerina cake topper and a cupid. I also added a tiny bottle of French perfume. You could hang this on the wall and hold a small collection of tiny perfumes too!

Colored pencils were used to add dimension to the rose cut out in the corner. As a final step Stickles glitter accents were added to the flowers and the doll. Her necklace was created using dots of the Stickles.

And Viola! You have a whimzical altered drawer!

This necklace began with a vintage copper filagree broach top that I found at a flea market. It sat on my workbench for several months as I pondered how to use this interesting piece. As I found other items with the same patina, I piled them next to the star like filagree. Once I had a small pile I began playing with composition. As soon as I found the central piece, which was an old rhinestone broach missing a stone, I glued it in place and clamped it overnight. After collecting all the treasures together the time spent was just over an hour. More time was spent thinking about the individual pieces than it took to make this necklace. I usually have a dozen pieces that I am actively working on laid out in my studio. I think I do my best designing when I sleep. What girl would not want to dream in jewelry?

It just doesn't seem right to be painting in orange and black instead of pink and green!

For our artists, we are always amazed at the level of creativity, execution, and professionalism you exhibit. You are each and everyone amazing and we thank you for making our show spectacular!

To all the patient, wonderful people that spend their precious day with us, thank you! You are what makes Glitterfest sparkle! And we were definitely sparkling yesterday with the weather! Recently, I have had the opportunity to chat with some wonderful people about their experiences at Glitterfest!

I am so happy to say there was nothing but great responses! About the venue, the art, the artists, and the decorations!

I very much appreciate all feedback from our Glitterfest guests. Especially the positive, but negative also. It makes all the work worth it when I hear that the folks attending had fun and look forward to the next event!

1. At what age did you show an interest in art?

answer: At age 5 I remember asking my mom while she was sewing when she would show me how to sew on the machine and from that moment to the present my desire and curiosity to be creative has never stopped.

2. What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?

answer: I remember making an abstract "painting" with strips of construction paper in 2nd grade and getting an award and feeling very proud of it. I loved craft time in school and making things at home.

3. How has being creative enhanced your life ?

answer: Being creative enhances my life because it means freedom to me. Free to do what I want and make a living doing it. It keeps me sane.

4 Who was your inspiration

answer: My mom at first. She sewed a lot of our (me and my sister) clothes, made ceramics and those cool framed kitschy bejeweled peacocks on velvet. She was always encouraging and made sure to praise what I did.

5. Are you neat or messy?

answer: VERY messy and proud of it! Most days it looks like a bomb went off in my studio but it's a creative,shiny, fun bomb and I know where most everything is. If I don't have my stuff surrounding and engulfing me, how can I create?

6. Where do you create?

answer: I create in my studio which is behind my home. I am very lucky to have it.

When my husband and I bought our house we made sure it had to have some kind studio space.

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?

answer: I do surround myself with creative inspirations. If you come into my home or studio you will see inspiration everywhere as I like to have the things that make me happy visible like art dolls, magazines and books open to a page that inspires me, a pile of rusty found objects that I may have found in the alley, letters from friends, broken jewelry (shiny of course), art that either my daughter, husband, ancestors or I have made and so much more.

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?

answer: At this time and place in my life I would like to have the know how and guts to get my work out to more people, a wider audience.

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?

answer: Financially independent! I intend on having at least one book done in 5 years and maybe more by 10. Gallery installations, notoriety and a waiting list for my work.

10. If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?

answer: 1. There are no rules.

2. Do what feels right for them and not anyone else.

3. Take lots of classes, read about art you love and never let anything get

in your way of creating.

11. What kind of food and drink do you like while you are creating?

answer: I usually don't eat food while I create but I like coffee in the morning and have it by my side while I create.

12. What, if any, type of music inspires you?

answer: I do love music, but I tend to listen to books on tape (love the Harry Potter series) NPR or the Vietnamese station (past life stuff maybe?)...can't understand it just like the way it sounds. I also like to have incense burning or a tart.

13. Where you think up most of your ideas?

answer: It must be when my mind is on autopilot like right before I wake or go to sleep....sometimes in the car

14. Who would you enjoy learning from?

answer: dead artists like Frida Khalo, Alexander Calder, Monet, Degas. Live artists: Jesse Reno

15. Who did you flip over at Glitterfest?

answer: flip or trip? just kidding....hmmmm do you mean who's stuff did I like best? That is very hard because I loved so many artists and some I don't know the names. There were some fantastic doll artists that I loved. One had lovely fairies and the other had really cool, large witches. I loved Lisa Loria's display and work and Marilyn and Rita had an awesome booth with awesome art. I didn't have much time to go look at everything. It was mostly within the view from my booth. Glitterfest has the most amazing artists in one single space so it's hard to pick one. And that's the truth.

At what age did you show an interest in art?

I have been drawing since I was able to hold a crayon. I first started sculpting when I would make miniature food out of salt dough for my dollhouse people. In high school, my friends and I would stay up all night on a Friday making weird little sculptures out of earthen clay from the art supply store (yes, I ran with a wild crowd ;-) )

What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic? Wow that’s a hard question to answer because I still have a hard time defining myself as an artist. I definitely felt more validated though when I was approached by Better Homes and Gardens to design a Christmas project for their Holiday Crafts issue. I thought, wow, maybe I am an artist.

How has being creative enhanced your life? Being creative has kept me out of trouble! Seriously speaking, I have an active imagination and tend to be anxious, so being able to create helps me channel that energy and imagination into something positive rather than worrying myself into a tizzy over the economy and other woes. I think when you tap into your creative energy, it’s really hard to get bored, and you avoid developing too many bad habits.

Who was your inspiration? I have so many, but I am especially a huge fan of the late paper clay doll artist Robert McKinley. His work was beyond extraordinary. Every doll he created seemed to tell a story.

Are you neat or messy?

I am naturally messy but strive for neatness and organization with some success (I am currently in graduate school studying to be a librarian  . I have all of my art and craft books and Somerset magazines cataloged!) However, right before a big show, you can’t walk into my studio space without tripping over something!

Where do you create?

I have sort of taken over the upstairs family room in our new townhouse. All of my books, my paints, my tools and clay are stored in pretty container there and I am all set up with the laptop and the Ipod for Netfix watching and Pandora streaming. I keep telling my family that the room is for all of us to create in but they just roll their eyes and call it “Mom’s studio” despite my protestations!

Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?   I have an extensive collection of beautifully illustrated antique children’s books and I rotate them on display in my studio. I also covet and collect quirky vintage figural salt and pepper shakers, like Mobster caterpillars that wear hats or angry grapefruits, and you may find evidence of that silliness in some of my work.

If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art? I would love to write a project book and help beginning sculptors discover their talent. In my experience while teaching art workshops, there is nothing better than seeing the joy on student’s face when the character that they have been working on suddenly emerges from a lump of clay.

Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years? Continuing to create more little guys out of clay, and teaching more and as often as possible. I would love to teach in every U.S state, and abroad too!!! (so far I have taught in Arizona, California and New Jersey).

If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them? I would tell them to make art every day, even if you only have 5 minutes to sketch out an idea. Keep a little notepad with you to capture that creative idea whenever and wherever it happens upon you. Oh to have the imagination of child! We should all strive for that.
What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating? I usually don’t eat while sculpting, but I always have ice cold water at the ready… or hot tea with milk in the wintertime.

What, if any, type of music inspires you?   My Ipod is always with me and I love lots of genres, but my favorite bands include Radiohead, the Pixies, Pink Floyd and the Arcade Fire… and when I am feeling mellow… old Depression era jazz and blues like Fat’s Waller and the Ink Spots.

Where you think up most of your ideas? Usually during long drives or while exercising…sometimes if I am reading or watching an old movie. There are some wonderful old movies on the InternetArchive.org’s digital library. Do a search for the artist Ray Harryhausen. He made some charming stop motion animated films in the 1940’s based on nursery rhymes that always inspire me to create.

Who would you enjoy learning from? I have always wanted to take a class from the wonderful polymer clay doll artist Maureen Carlson. She seems so generous with sharing technique and enthusiasm for her craft… the Hallmark of a good teacher.

Who did you flip over at Glitterfest? Just about everyone! What an amazingly talented group. There was some great creative energy and palpable delight in that room! It’s hard to just pick one, but I find Christy Silacci’s doll artistry particularly enchanting.

1. At what age did you show an interest in art?
I think I have always done art in one form or another. I can’t really say what age. My Mother told me that even when I was very young I used to spend hours drawing (or scribbling). Guess I’ve always been in my own little world.

2. What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?
I think when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade I got a 3rd place ribbon for something. Funny thing is I remember being disappointed.
I don’t think I really took myself serious as an artist though, until as an adult ( in my late 30’s) I landed a job designing for a Children’s wear company. Even though I’d done art shows and had my own shop in the past there was something about getting a paycheck from someone else that made me feel like I was a legitimate artist. It also was good for me in that It gave me confidence that I could work and produce art on a consistent basis, as a “real” job if you will.

3. How has being creative enhanced your life ?
It has kept me sane. More than I ever realized. Don and I have gone through some pretty rough trials in the last few years. If I didn’t have my creative outlet and my faith in God I don’t know where I would be.
And that is the absolute truth!

4. Who was your inspiration?
Wow, don’t’ think I have any one person or thing that inspires me. I think I have always leaned towards being creative because of lack. What I mean by that is that growing up in a home where money was tight you learn to be creative if you want things. In other words if you can’t buy it you try to make a creative substitute for it.
I am also inspired by my childhood I suppose. I love retro art from the 40’s and 50’s. Love the really old Disney Silly Symphony cartoons. I love happy art as well.

5. Are you neat or messy?
MESSY!! And it drives me crazy!

6. Where do you create?
Wherever I can find a space. It’s not pretty site. Believe me!

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?
Yes I do. I have to have my “stuff” around. I’m not sure why, I just do…. Among other things, my most treasured finds are old Lefton ceramic pieces of cute blue birds, cats and other anthropomorphic figures.
I have always loved fruits and vegetables and other inanimate objects with arms and legs and faces. Also things like bunnies and cats that dress like people etc. Love that!!

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?
I would like to do some “more sophisticated” work. Things that people could and would hang in their living rooms. Right now it seems that I can’t get beyond cute though I try, it doesn’t seem to work for me. It’s my niche I guess. It’s what I love.

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?
I hope to see myself making a complete living from my work. In other words, not needing any other outside source of income. I also want to continue to grow and learn new techniques and use new mediums. Never stop growing.
I can see myself (it’s a dream mind you) of being more organized, more a peace where life isn’t as chaotic has it’s been in recent years. Please….Please!!

10. If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?
I would tell them not to give up, not to give into to doubt or criticism from other people and especially not from themselves. If they feel the need and the want to create then stick with it. Creativity, in my opinion is more about making a decision than anything else. So many people think there is a right way to create art. This is the biggest misconception. Like allot of other things in life, it is about confidence. It’s about trusting your instincts. Again, in the end it’s about making a decision. I’m sometimes surprised when I see people trying to create art and they are so afraid. I’ve been there too. I know what it’s like. Be brave and be daring, make a decision. That’s all I can say.

11. What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating?
I don’t usually. I can go hours and hours without eating or drinking anything (I even hate taking a bathroom break) when I’m really into creating something. Unfortunately, I make up for it later. Ugh!

12. What, if any, type of music inspires you?
I don’t usually listen to music either. Sometimes I do, but not too often. Unless I’m doing something repetitive and mundane I find it kind of distracting.

13. Where you think up most of your ideas?
I find an idea can come to me out of nowhere and anywhere. A color, a word, driving, sleeping, a descriptive passage from a book all of these things might bring an idea to me. I think most of my ideas come from a piece I might already be working on. Also I might see something in a flea market, a garage sale, or thrift store that might inspire me and plead with me to make something out of it.

14. Who would you enjoy learning from?
I’m not sure who, but I would like to learn how to make cloth or clay (or a combination) dolls out of my character drawings. I’ve experimented with this some, but really with the kind of dolls I’m talking about, you need to know the basics on doing the armatures and inner workings. I would like to learn from someone who really knows what their doing. So if anyone knows someone let me know. I learn much better in the doing than in just reading how to do it. I might also be interested in collaborating with someone on it. Such as me doing the designing and finishing and someone else putting the doll together.

15. Who did you flip over at Glitterfest?
Oh wow, tough answer. There are so many fantastic artists in so many categories. I don’t think I can answer this right now. I get more excited about everyone else’s work more than my own!!

1. At what age did you show an interest in art?
As far back as I can remember, I was interested in art.

2. What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?
When I was in kindergarten, I did a painting of an underwater scene, and I remember all the other kids commenting on how good it was. I always had a passion for art, but it was at that point that I knew I had talent. I still have that painting today!

3. How has being creative enhanced your life ?
Being creative, for me, really makes me see things in life differently. Everything in life has beauty, and I feel so fortunate to be able to see that beauty. It has also made me more patient with everything I do.

4 Who was your inspiration?
My uncle Eddie, who is an artistic master, has always been my main inspiration. I’ve always been inspired by the great masters – Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Van Gogh.

5. Are you neat or messy?
My mother once told me that artists don’t make very good housekeepers. Seriously, who wants to be cleaning when you can be creating. You should see my studio. Let’s just say it won’t be in “Where Women Create”!!

6. Where do you create?
I have a studio in my house. It’s my little corner of the world!

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?
Definitely! My library of art books, other people’s art. I have some exquisite 18th century paintings hanging in my studio. Photos of my family, goofy things like an old hand-carved carousel horse.

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?
That’s a tough one. I love to create in so many ways. But, when I was at the Louvre, there was an artist sitting in front of a master’s painting, doing a reproduction. Imagine doing that, a painting of one of the great original masterpieces.

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?
5 years – I would like to be successful, for sure! But, I love what I do and would just like to be doing more of it.

10 years – I don’t really think that far ahead. My work just seems to be better when it is immediate and spontaneous – I’m just not very good at planning things for the long term.

10. If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?
Art is something that is inside you, so embrace it. Work at it constantly, practice continuously, and be open to learning new things, always.

11. What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating?
I never eat or drink while I’m creating.

12. What, if any, type of music inspires you?
I listen to rock & roll, but honestly when I’m engrossed in my work I don’t hear the music. I like all kinds of music, and sometimes the subject matter of my paintings will dictate the kind of music I listen to.

13. Where do you think up most of your ideas?
That’s easy! When I’m in bed, late at night, my mind is always spinning about new ideas and new creations. Maybe that’s why I don’t sleep all that well!!

14. Who would you enjoy learning from?
Wow. Where do I start! Imagine living in the time of Da Vinci, with his great mind. I would so have loved talking to him and creating with him.

15. Who did you flip over at Glitterfest?
I really don’t think I could pick one person – all the artists there are so talented and amazing. Just too hard for me to pick one or two. I flip over all of them!

At what age did you show an interest in art? 6!

What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic? In Kindergarten we were finger painting. The teacher and principal were there and asked me what mine was a picture of. I said “Bozo the clown”. They asked if they could put my painting in the teachers lounge for everyone to enjoy. It stayed there until I left elementary school.

How has being creative enhanced your life ? It is an outlet that soothes the mind different from anything else. I have a great sense of accomplishment when a project is finished.

Who was your inspiration? Both of my parents are creative and encouraged me to keep at it.

Are you neat or messy? Messy beyond all belief!

Where do you create? Kitchen counter and kitchen table. It travels back and forth because the family has to eat!

Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?

All kinds, vintage trinkets, old clocks, photos, magazine clippings.

If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?

I would love to plant and furnish a public garden.

Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years? I have always held the vision of an old lady painting in her seaside front yard as the boardwalk winds on. Surrounded by flowers, the breeze and birds.

If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?

Try it all! Failure is success!

What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating? Whatever I can find.

If I have a choice it would be Pepsi and See’s!

What, if any, type of music inspires you? Anything easy breezy, that makes you think of spending a sunny Saturday washing the car with your husband!

At what age did you show an interest in art? As far back as I can remember, I think it started with my first coloring book (lol).

What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?
Oh gosh, I’m not sure. I got A’s on my art projects in grade school, does that count?!
I can say, it’s a journey that is ever evolving; there are new frontiers to conquer, but I think most recently, my real accomplishment was when my submissions were chosen for Stampington & Company’s new magazine, Jewelry Affaire (due to launch April 1, 2010).
I couldn’t believe it!

How has being creative enhanced your life? It keeps me balanced and feeds my soul. I’ve met some amazing people and cultivated friendships that I don’t think I would have otherwise.

Who was your inspiration? I can’t say it was just one person or one particular thing. I’m inspired every day. I‘m inspired by many different things, especially other artists. I guess if I think back, my Mom was my first inspiration who spurred me on by her creative ways; she sewed clothes, curtains and anything with fabric. Happily, I came from a creative family; my Dad was a successful restaurateur and loved to draw.

Are you neat or messy? Both! I have to start out neat and organized. I’m out of control messy as I go; no matter what I’m creating whether it’s jewelry, painting, collage or another project. Then I have to re-organize, put everything away, just to start the mess over once again!

Where do you create? Most put their cars in the garage. We put carpet in, and turned ours into our creation room. My husband and I share the space, he’s a musician so half is set up for him, and I have a section (which has grown -just ask my husband). When I started creating jewelry, I took over my home office as well because it has a window for better light. Now I use our creation room and my office (a girl can never have too much room, or shoes!

Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? Oh most definitely. What are they? I have a little of everything from art inspired magazines, my own art, and other artist’s art. I enjoy gardening, so flowers and plants. I’m drawn to vintage. Overall, I love beautiful things!

If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art? Create more, explore other mediums, expand my line, and make things that bring joy to people because it makes me happy to create them.

Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years? As I mentioned before, my creative journey is ever evolving. I hope to always be creating and learning different mediums that happen to spark my interest at the time. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I’m enjoying the ride.

If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them? Don’t be afraid to try all mediums, there are no mistakes in art. Sometimes your mistakes are your best accomplishments. Do what you love, follow your dreams, and never give up.

What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating? I drink coffee in the morning for my jump start. Water! I don’t usually eat while I create, but I have to eat or I get cranky, I tend to eat healthy food over junk food. While I’m eating, I take that time to reflect on what I’ve accomplished or still need to accomplish.

What, if any, type of music inspires you? I love to listen to most genres of music while I create: It’s a pretty eclectic mix.

Where do you think up most of your ideas? The bathroom, shower, kitchen, bed? All of it, my brain doesn’t stop thinking of ideas. The problem is creating all the ideas that come to mind.

Who would you enjoy learning from? From the past, all the greats, which now we just stand back and admire their work. (in museums & books)

In the present, there are many talented artists I admire. I find it hard to choose one, but at the moment Misty Mawn comes to mind, as does Stephanie Lee, and Ruth Rae. See, hard to pick one, there are so many more.

How has being creative enhanced your life ?
Everything has potential, everything is beautiful and everything has validity, based on ones perception. Creativity lifts the blinders. Life is not so myopic.

Who was your inspiration?
My Grandmothers. Dolly and Nana. Nature. Just anything pretty.

Are you neat or messy?
I try to be neat, but get really messy and move from area to area until my whole house is a mess. Then I wig out, clean it all up, re-organize...then start all over. Sick, huh? Where do you create? I have two main studios. One is my family room which is attached to my kitchen. The heart of my home, so it is also the heart of where I create. My daughter and I also share a tiny cottage in the back yard that we create in.

Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations?
Totally! What are they? I adore Dress forms and mannequins and have over 20 throughout my home. Doll heads. LOTS of COLOR. My paintings. I have clouds and birds on my ceiling.
I adore vintage and have lots of whimsical things and sayings on some walls and in frames.

If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?
My pipe dream is to write and illustrate. I want to make people happy and bring joy to a sometimes very dark world.

Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?
More of the same. Published and published some more.
Perhaps licensed so I can do more designing than production.

If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?
Fear nothing, try every medium. There is no wrong way in art. It is what comes from your heart and your head. Go to Art School.

What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating?
Green tea, coffee. Water with lemon. I lose track of eating when I am creating, but overall I am a very healthy eater...but then there is that pesky jar of Semi-sweet chocolate chips...

What, if any, type of music inspires you?
Good Grief, that's the hardest question you have asked. As I type I am listening to Depeche Mode. Everything from Opera, musicals and classical...Imogene Heap, Buddha Bar,
Country, Sara McLachlan, Jewel, Loreena Mc Kennit. Korn, yes, every genre but Rap, hip hop and screamo. I LOVE music and don't watch TV, so music is virtually always on. Music is my second passion.

Where do you think up most of your ideas?
The bathroom, shower, kitchen, bed? No where specific. Everywhere. I carry a notebook to jot ideas down in.

Who would you enjoy learning from?
The past? Picasso, because abstract art confuses me and I would love to add that perspective. Contemporary? Cassandra Barney. I love to paint women and love how she captures them.

I don't remember her name (my bad) but she was across from me with the
HUGE sculpted dolls. AMAZING!!! (That would be Quirino Martinez!)

3. How has being creative enhanced your life ? My art has brought recognition, & close friends.

4. Who was your inspiration? Not a single person but French Floral Art from the 1800’s including Catherine Kline and Paul DeLonpre.

5. Are you neat or messy? I feel that I am neat.

6. Where do you create? I am able to work in my art studio which is located in my home

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they? Absolutely, I am inspired from vintage items, decorative magazines, and the flowers in the garden.

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art? I would like to expand my line to include fabric and wallpaper.

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years? I have two answers: either sitting in a rocking chair with bifocals (LOL) trying to paint … or still continuing to be productive in a creative way.

10. If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them? To take as many classes as possible continuing to move forward in their ability. This can be accomplished through school, books, community classes,etc. I would advise them to draw or paint what they love.

11. What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating? I don’t eat while I paint. I’ll step away, eat, critique and then proceed.

12. What, if any, type of music inspires you? Soft romantic music in the background.

13. Where do you think up most of your ideas? The bathroom, shower, kitchen, bed? Sitting in a chair, skimming through decorative magazines or going on the computer and surfing decorative ideas.

14. Who would you enjoy learning from? I would love to have been a student back in the 1800’s at the Lyon School in France. They were able to learn floral paintings on canvas, wall coverings, textiles, etc. Nothing similar is offered today for artists.

1. At what age did you show an interest in art?

I started sewing my own clothes in High School, mostly skirts & dresses-easy stuff!

2. What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?

I worked at The Strawberry Patch restaurant my senior year in HS. I made my own uniform- a yellow summer dress with bright strawberries all over it. It was perfect with my red espadrilles!

3. How has being creative enhanced your life?

I have met so many incredible artists that constantly inspire me to reach the next level of my work. They have also introduced me to the world of blogging!

4. Who was your inspiration?

My mom and my brother. My mom has restored antique dolls since I was very young and my brother restores antique toys. I love that they insist on using original materials in their work.
They also love a good auction or flea market trip!

5. Are you neat or messy?

Unfortunately, I’m messy. But there is a really organized person trying to come out!

6. Where do you create?

I am blessed to have my own cottage to work in. I have one room with my work area, another room to solder & resin and a huge workshop with heavy tools underneath! My husband
also has a small room where he can ham (radio).

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?

I have been collecting antiques for years. I have antique dolls, banks, silver trays-the craftsmanship and stories each piece has to tell is inspiring.

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?

This may sound silly but since I make jewelry from vintage flatware, I’d love to partner with a famous chef and restaurant and have each server/hostess wear my art!

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?

Tough question! Ok, in 5 years I will have partnered with that famous chef . In 10 years, I hope I am lucky enough to keep creating as my full time job and I hope my hands hold out!

I look forward to learning from many artists at Glitterfest and add more depth to my work.

10. If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?

Don’t worry about making mistakes. Some of my best pieces have come from something I put aside because I thought it was “wrong”. Once I go back to the original work,I find it has taken me in a different direction.

11. What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating?

Water, lattes and fruit.

12. What, if any, type of music inspires you?

Currently, I’m listening to Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas. His passion is incredible! I sing as loudly as I can!

*At what age did you show an interest in art?

·I remember being very interested in art from an early age. In first grade I was completely enthralled by the idea of an art competition the school was having. The requirements to draw a likeness of the school I was shocked when I won.

* What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic?

· I would say winning the art contest in first grade was really a boost to me as a
young child. Really my reinforcement in my adult life came when I submitted a piece of artwork in 2006 to Somerset Studio it was this piece that really paved the path that has led me to where I am now as it was chosen as the cover piece.

How has being creative enhanced your life ?

· Each day I am amazed that I am living my dream. Creativity has enhanced my daily world in the way I see things, each moment holds beauty and a depth of meaning exists in all things I do.

* Who was your inspiration?

· This is always a hard question for me as I have been inspired by so many amazing people in my life as well as those who lived long before my birth. I have always gained an immense amount of inspiration from my favorite author Jane Austen as well as Beethoven.

* Are you neat or messy?

· Neat

* Where do you create?

· I create in my home studio, which will be featured in the winter issue of Where Women Create.

* Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they?

· My entire studio is filled with pieces from both the present and the past. I have lovely pieces of artwork and antiquities dear friends have bestowed upon me that constantly inspire and delight. Alongside these treasures are pieces from the past that I have collected through the years. From darling wee baby shoes and watch fobs to antique photo albums and books I draw great joy from being surrounded by such wonderful items that have their own story to tell. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art?

· I would love to have another gallery show and at the close all the pieces that remained would be donated to those who need a bit of beauty and joy added to their days.

* Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?

· In five years I definitely see myself creating as I do now, writing articles and with many art licensing agreements as well as a couple of books on my shelf written by me.

· In 10 years I see myself creating, writing as well as designing on a commercial level while insuring there are moments for me to just be and explore in my artwork.

* If you were the inspiration for a child interested in art, what would you tell them?

· Never give up always move forward in all that you do. One of my favorite quotes really sums it up

"Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead." Louisa May Alcott   

I believe when we keep sight of those things that we desire to achieve we are consistently reminded to strive ahead move forward and never look behind.

* What kinds of food and drink do you eat while creating?

· I start each morning in the studio with a lovely espresso. Hot tea and water always seem to find there way into my space. I adore Musk flavored Lifesavers (yes Musk found in Australia and New Zealand) as well as nuts and cheese.

* What, if any, type of music inspires you?

· Classical

* Where do you think up most of your ideas? The bathroom, shower, kitchen, bed?

· I really cannot say there is one area that ideas seem to flow as I seem to be constantly bombarded with ideas, hence the journal that is always within my reach.

· I would love to take a class with a Ganzorig Alyeksandr Master of Calligraphy.

1. At what age did you show an interest in art? I would say ever since I can remember I've been using my hands to make something.

2. What was the first accomplishment you had as an artist. In other words, what did you complete that made you realize you were artistic? I painted tiny birds on a model's nails for a manicuring contest, and won first price.

3. How has being creative enhanced your life ? It's brought out the real me, because I can create something that reflects who I really am as a person.

4. Who was your inspiration? My mom, because she was always making stained glass windows, or sewing.

5. Are you neat or messy? Very messy and unorganized!

6. Where do you create? All over the house, but I'm lucky enough to have my own work room.

7. Do you surround yourself with creative inspirations? What are they? The color white, old photographs, vintage fabrics on pillows, handmade paper items, German Glass glitter, and really anything another person has made inspires me.

8. If you could do anything, what one thing would you do with your art? Create a soldered ornament for the white house Christmas tree.

9. Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years? 10years?
Still making goodies, but perhaps traveling abroad and selling them in Europe.

Getting Ready for Glitterfest 2010!

Just as the last remnants of orange glitter are finally swept away, it is time to start in on the next show! What will change? What will remain the same? A new theme maybe? Update the dates, photos and such. No time to bask in the glory of Fall! Must think about Spring!

Although I thoroughly enjoy this event, thinking of May with the coolness of Fall nipping at my heels is tough work! Hot coffee and banana bread slathered in butter is what I crave! Not daffodils and chirping birds! But alas! The work will not wait!

So this marks the beginning. The creation of a place to highlight the people, artists, and essence of "Glitterfest!"

I think it promises to be quite an adventure!
